Now in its 10th year TORQ in your Sleep is a very popular, large scale XC endurance event that attracts riders from all over the country and sells out. Riders can choose to ride Solo or as part of a Pair or Team for 12 or 6 hours. There are Single Speed and Fat Bike sub categories available too.
There is camping nearby, so you can can bring a tent, caravan or campervan and do not need to book a pitch as it is first come, first served. Strictly no camp fires at the camping venue.
When you arrive on Sunday morning you will be directed to the car parks. Everything is open early and you can confirm your entry at the Marquee. The course is open for pre-riding until the first compulsory briefing at 11am where we’ll tell you all you’ll need to know. The second compulsory briefing is at 2pm for the 6hr riders.
There is a mass start for the 12 hour riders at Noon and for the 6 hour riders at 3pm. Riders do a slow lap of the Arena and track following the quad bike, then the quad bike will peel off and riders start racing.
Solos ride for their 12 or 6 hours stopping when they wish, whilst ensuring that they exit and enter the course at their track side kit pitch.
Team and Pairs riders go out individually, in relay, in any order and can either change over or continue after each lap. They change over by handing over their wristband to the next rider in the Transition Area. Waiting riders enter the Transition Area place their bikes on the rack, and then wait at the fence for their rider to hand over the wristband before they can start.
Riders’ bikes need to be well prepared but they may carry spares and tools with them during their lap. Lights must be fitted to all bikes starting a lap after 7pm and must be switched on by 8pm if you don’t have any they can be hired at the event from Four4th Lights www.four4th.co.uk Rear lights are not required.
Laps need to be completed by Midnight (or 9pm for the 6 hour riders) to count.
Relaxing afterwards When you finish you can go and relax at HQ where the catering is open. Remember to bring your rider number along with you and put it in the ‘Prize Bin’ as there is a Killer Prize Draw after the Prize Givings and you have to be there to win some superb spot prizes from our event sponsors. The Prize Giving will take place soon after the course has closed when the results are confirmed. The Prize giving for the 6hr riders will be at at about 9.15 when their results are confirmed.
